Creating with the BERNINA 990 - Design nd Align
The "StitchWise: Design and Align" event is a hands-on workshop that uses the BERNINA 990 sewing, quilting, and embroidery machine to teach participants how to create custom designs and achieve perfect placement.
The event covers specific design and alignment features of the BERNINA 990 machine:
- Design Creation: Participants learn to use the machine's built-in tools, such as the Stitch Designer and Shape Designer, to create custom embroidery designs and alter existing stitches right on the touchscreen. The new "Jumbo Stitch" feature, which allows resizing stitches from 25% to 500%, is also explored.
- Design Alignment and Positioning: The workshop emphasizes precision placement techniques. Key methods taught include:
- Pinpoint Placement (2-point and 4-point): This feature is used to accurately align, rotate, and position designs, especially helpful if the fabric wasn't hooped perfectly straight.
- Absolute Check function: This allows the user to tap a point on the design on the screen to move the needle to that exact location on the project, ensuring precise positioning.
- Built-in Camera & Placement Scanner: The machine's integrated camera aids in scanning the hooped fabric to help with design positioning and multi-hooping projects.
- Pinpoint Laser: The built-in laser is utilized for accurate guidance during various processes, including applique and general placement.
In addition to design and alignment, the event often includes learning various other techniques such as couched embroidery, free-motion quilting with the BSR (BERNINA Stitch Regulator), sideways motion stitching, and creating appliques.
